Flash games were the precursors to many parts of the gaming industry today. The creativity and willingness to experiment has translated over to the indie games industry, many design elements that are used in AAA games today were first observed in flash games, and the casual nature of many flash games has translated over to the mobile game industry. The roguelite genre really took off in the Flash games industry. One of the games that started the trend is Bubble Tanks.

To install Bubble Tanks, just run it with whatever SWF player you have.

The controls are simple. You can control your tank with the WASD keys on the keyboard and aim and click the mouse to shoot. You're first equipped with a weak but infinite cannon, with more weapons becoming available as you absorb the bubbles left behind by the enemy.

You move between big bubbles, and each bubble is a separate arena. The first couple of bubbles will contain the tutorial text for the player. If you take hits, you'll lose bubbles on your tank, and if you lose all the bubbles, you'll start over from the beginning just like a regular roguelike game.

All in all, Bubble Tanks is a fantastic game with some nice ideas, like how your bubbles are your health, currency, and experience all in one.
