Cogs of Combat Prototype

Low budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to create an epic, the creators instead need to focus on one unique feature to make their games stick out. From these restrictions come some truly inventive concepts. One of them is Cogs of Combat, which is a really fun demake of the incredibly popular Gears of War series.

To play Cogs of Combat, simply run the executable after unzipping it to a folder.

The whole story is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the original Gears of War. You join Marc Bird, Carbon Locomotive, and...Woman as they dodge between cover and blast the alien menace. The dialogue is snappy and silly, making clear references to the original games while being its own thing.

The gameplay is simple, but fun and with high skill ceiling. You auto-aim at enemies and automatically duck behind cover when you stop shooting. You can also dash between the cover and hurl grenades, which is important because the enemies will steadily home in on your position and you'll find it difficult to find windows to shoot.

The current prototype of the game only features three levels and can be finished in under five minutes, but there's also a two player mode and gameplay mastery to keep you replaying.

All in all, if you want to play a game with an incredibly unique premise, then you should give Cogs of Combat a download.
