DOOM 4 Vanilla 2.5.9

DOOM 2016 is one of the most refreshing shooters in recent times, with its unflinching dedication to the traditional formula of run 'n gun demon-slaying setting it apart from its competition. Its arcade gameplay brought people back to the old days. Some took that literally and decided to actually bring it into the old days by creating a DOOM mod based around this. The result is Doom 4 Vanilla.

To install Doom 4 Vanilla, you need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the GZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM mods.

As soon as you start playing it, you'll notice that it is very true to its goal of being an accurate demake. All the guns are changed to resemble and handle much like their 2016 counterpart, and all the demons are also redesigned to look like their 2016 versions. On top of that, the music is all remixed to be much like the 2016...remixes.

There are a ton of other touches, such as the field drones that hold backpacks. There are also different powerups, with Rip and Tear power-up and the Mega Doll, both of which replace Berserk and Mega sphere respectively. Unfortunately, a couple of things were lost in the transition such as glory kills and some weapons, but that's the price you pay when it's a mod and not a full blown game on its own.

All in all, if you want to experience a fun little demake, then you should give Doom 4 Vanilla a download and give it a shot.
