Endless Sky 0.9.9

The gaming industry is going through a space sim boom recently, thanks to the big highlight project Star Citizen. Thankfully, there are some that have actually released recently, and some of those are even completely free and still being updated! One of them is Endless Sky, a game that lets you painstakingly customize a ship and take them into the galaxy.

Installing Endless Sky is easy, just unzip the files and run the executable. The first thing that happens when you start playing the game is to pick between three different ships. Two are for commerce and one is for plundering and being a pirate. After that, you can start making your way throughout space and jumping throughout the systems, trading or robbing. The mechanics are very easy to pick up, as it's a very casual game. Every planet you go to, you can get missions, hire crews, equip your ship with new tech, and even manage your finances at the bank.

Do note that this game is a roguelike - if you die, you'll have to start over with a new ship, but some of your progress from your previous life will carry over. As for graphics, this game is thoroughly indie. The graphics are simple but good and the animations are just enough to portray what's happening.

Overall, if you love space simulators and want to try playing the economy, then Endless Sky is a fine choice. It's a competent game, and still constantly being updated. Give it a try if it sounds like your type of game.
