Stand Up Comedy 2.0

Stand Up Comedy is a short simulation experience game where you play as a stand up comedian who has forgotten his notes 5 minutes before he has to go on stage and perform, the game is billed as being pure stress and anxiety and in real life those 5 minutes with or without your notes really are, however the game is not much more than an (admittedly incredibly well rendered) room where a bouncer or the night’s MC occasionally shouts how much time you have left before the act preceding you comes off stage, who apparently is having a stormer and is going to be a hard act to follow.

Did it fill us with stress and anxiety? Sadly the answer is no it didn’t fill us with much it didn’t even seem like a game although there was some interesting posters and flyers on the walls to read and although you’re not supposed to be able to interact with anything we somehow managed to knock a pizza box on to the floor, if the game had ended with walking on to the stage, squinting at the spotlight while the baying audience awaits, that may have finally added the anxiety this game is supposed to provide but after waiting in the waiting room for a lot longer than the 5 minutes until we were supposed to go on stage and nothing happened in the end.

Ok so it should be made clear this whole thing was made as part of a comedy podcast to have a discussion about and was never meant to be thought of as a “game” but it certainly didn’t realy seem to incite that air of nervousness it was going for, it’s probably impossible to do that when you know if the stress gets too much you can always turn the game off, not that it did anything emotionally for us anyway.

However if you like to spend a few minutes looking at some great and realistic rendering then it’s worth a look at Stand Up Comedy, but there isn’t anything else to it.
