Strategy games have been around for decades now. The mechanics have constantly changed over the years, with more and more people attempting to revitalize and revolutionize the genre. The concept of an MMORTS is one of those twists on the genre, and a ton of attempts have been made to streamline this genre. One of the many attempts is Ways of History.

The first thing you'll notice is that it looks like a typical mobile game city building game. You have to build your civilization up from the Stone Age. Your first few steps are to organize everybody. Build shacks, huts, invent fire and a proper language, and more. However, much like a mobile game, it takes real-time to build things or perform upgrades, so no matter how much you play, there will always be a time barrier to prevent you from advancing too quickly. When it comes to the multiplayer component, you'll find it very difficult to catch up, and the oldest players will dominate the game.

Once you get into battle, you'll find an army of surprisingly good looking units going at it. That's when the game looks a little better, but you'll find that the gameplay is still reminiscent of mobile games.

Overall, Ways of History is a unique concept bogged down by overloaded mobile game mechanics on a PC game. Since older players have such a massive lead, catching up as a new player is nearly impossible.
