Free to play shooters have a pretty bad reputation of all being the same. While that's somewhat true nowadays with the industry preference for chasing trends in recent times. However, in the early 2000s, there were a ton of shooters that tried to set themselves apart from the rest of the pack. One ofthem, no pun intended, was WolfTeam.

The main thing that sets this game apart from the rest of the pack is the unique transformation mechanics. Every single player starts off as a normal human with a typical gun, but they can also turn into a melee focused wolf at any point. The wolves have increased mobility and the ability to run on walls, which is how they can stand a chance against the human players with their ranged weapons.

In human form, a single headshot or a burst of bullets is enough to kill them. However, once a player turns into wolf form, they get a ton of temporary HP that slowly decreases as they remain in the form, letting them charge down humans in the first few seconds but steadily becoming weaker. 

The wolf transformation is truly enough to give this game a unique flavor that very few other free to play shooters can match up against. WolfTeam proves that a single good gimmick is truly enough to set yourself apart from the rest of the pack. Even a decade later, it proves to be able to stand on its own.
