Alternate Dictionary Review
Last Updated: 2019-06-24 02:20:30
As industries develop, every single one of them has developed its own idiosyncratic vocabulary, to the point where newcomers or people viewing from the outside would be completely unable to follow a conversation at times. For example, how on earth is the normal person supposed to know what a modulo is? For moments like this, it would be fantastic to have a custom dictionary. Alternate Dictionary is here to serve your needs.
The first thing I noticed when I booted it up is how it's English was...somewhat broken. There was German peppered here and there, mucking up the interface a bit. The download also came with just one custom dictionary: English-German. The website offers a couple more dictionaries, such as English-Japanese. To download more dictionaries, you'll have to search it online.
Alternatively, you can also create your own dictionaries. Alternate Dictionary lets you create a custom dictionary for whatever you wish. If you're a programmer and want to introduce somebody to your special terminology, part of a fandom and want to explain to someone else what your weird fandom specific terms mean, or just plain up crazy and made up your own language, this function is extremely useful.
The download also comes with a list of computer abbreviations. While I don't see this becoming widespread, this program should be extremely useful if you want to create a glossary for a very specialized audience. If that sounds like something you need, then I recommend you give Alternate Dictionary a download!
