Racing games typically focus on on-road vehicles, with little respect given to off-roaders. Well, there have been a few games where they've been the focus, but they're dwarfed in popularity by normal racers. Out of all those rare games, one of them is Hill Climb Race 4x4, an arcade game where you have to get to the goal.

Installing Hill Climb Race 4x4 is simple. Just run the installer and select where you want to install the game. As soon as you boot the game up, you'll notice that it doesn't exactly inspire confidence. The main menu just pops onto the screen with no fanfare, and it's an incredibly simple menu at that. The levels all have stretched dirt textures and muddled backgrounds.

However, the level design makes it a lot more enjoyable than you'd think. You have to manage your car's speed so you don't slide off the road and into oblivion, and you'll also need to take hills carefully to not rocket down the other side.

However, all these tricks are learned within a few minutes and don't get any more complex. And there are far too many levels for this simple formula to endure. The music is annoying and repetitive, and it's all too common that you find the same tricks over and over again for level design.

All in all, Hill Climb Race 4x4 is an incredibly barebones game that is also repetitive, two points that aren't in its favor. If you want something to play for just a few minutes, then give it a download. Otherwise, steer clear.
