The computer registry is a database in the Windows OS that stores low-level settings. As you continue using your computer, the operating system will naturally begin generating useless and invalid entries that no longer reference to any files on disk. This is most common after deleting or uninstalling files. These entries will, over time, slow down your computer by clogging up the registry. You'll need a third-party program to automatically scan and clean out these useless entries, and RegSeeker is one of them. It doesn't just clean the registry, however - it also does a number of other computer optimization functions.
There's no need to install RegSeeker - it only comes in a portable package, which means all you have to do is unzip the file. It automatically stores files inside itself and not the registry, so you can carry it around on a USB should you like. On initial startup, the program will recommend you create backups and system restore points beforehand, a recommendation I reinforce.
The interface is clean and easy to use. There are a few tabs on the left side that detail its functions, and on the right is where you can execute those functions. It's incredibly hard to get lost using this program, as the minimalistic look ensures anyone who knows basic computer terminology will be able to utilize it.
It doesn't just clean your registry - it also comes with a number of tools such as uninstalling programs, finding invalid applications, manage autostart apps and features, and edit the firewall. With all these features, RegSeeker is a powerful optimization tool that's completely free for personal use, though some features are locked away unless you pay.
