Monitoring your network is an incredibly important thing for an admin to do, especially if you're working in a company or another private network. Though there are undoubtedly a ton of tools already in place to help you with that, there are a ton of specialized programs out there that are designed very specifically to help you monitor your network more efficiently. One of them is The Dude.

Note that The Dude only works - and can only be installed - with MikroTik routers. When you finally install this program, you'll be encountered by a very intimidating user interface. The main functions of this program are actually very accessible, but there are so many options, settings, and commands that it might intimidate some users away first thing. However, if you take the time to browse the interface a bit, then you'll notice that it's very easy to pick things up.

After it scans the network, the program will present users with an adjustable visual interface of the network structure. All computers, routers, file servers or web servers are displayed using a set of icons to differentiate them, all being presented in a web-like manner. You can add new devices, networks or submaps easily by simply providing the IP address of the device. You can reposition them anywhere you want as well.

All in all, assuming you're using MikroTik routers, then this is one of the best programs for managing the network. If you fall into that subset of users, then you should give The Dude a download!
