A Trip to Yugoslavia 1.1.0

A Trip to Yugoslavia is quite a strange game using real video footage and being played back to you as if it is on an old style VHS video tape including flickering and jumpiness.

The setting is the conflict in Yugoslavia however the developers go to great lengths to remind the player that it is not based on any true events during the conflict and that the whole plot line is fictional and created by them.

You can tell the developers have actually gone to great lengths to make the video footage themselves but at the same time as they are all so young it does have a rather Drama Club feel to all of the real video footage, in the game you will have to make decisions and deal with real time events such as escaping from capture during the prologue and although there is a tutorial I got stuck in the prologue for long enough to become frustrated as I didn’t understand the control to maintain the knife in my hand without dropping it.

A Trip to Yugoslavia shows a lot of promise and is a very interesting idea and looks set to become very popular there are some things that were unnecessary such as the at the beginning the seeing the head developers name and photo repeatedly but this is understandable if you are trying to raise a profile.

I did kind of expect something along the lines of Papers, Please and that may have raised my expectations too much and the decision making in this game is somewhat different.
