Battalion: Nemesis Review

Warning: You need to have a program capable of running an SWF file to play this game. You can click here to find one such program right here on our website.

Advance Wars revolutionized the turn-based strategy genre, giving newcomers an easy series to jump into the genre while also giving mainstay players a surprising amount of strategic depth. Before that, turn-based strategy games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Civilization were grueling, long term micromanagement games. Advance Wars instead had you throwing disposable units by the dozen at the enemy. It inspired a ton of different games, with one of them being the Battalion series. Let's look at Battalion: Nemesis.

To play Battalion: Nemesis, simply run it with whatever SWF player you have.

The game looks fantastic, with the graphics made by Heli Attack veteran that have each vehicle being incredibly detailed, and the music is bombastic enough to fit in perfectly.

The game plays out like a simplified, rebalanced game built on the original Advance Wars, with a toned down unit roster that's tightly balanced and an emphasis on aggressive tactics and shorter battles. This is very much a casual take on Advance Wars. You have to keep in mind the positioning of your units and choosing the right units for the right jobs, as every unit counters something but is weak against something else.

The storyline is surprisingly good, if not a tiny bit dry, and it's very much a set up to future entries into the genre. It might please you to know that future entries build on it for some genuinely great stories. All in all, Battalion: Nemesis is definitely worth playing through at least once.
