It's really simple to create a good tower defense game, as the genre has practically been optimized in terms of design and gameplay. However, that doesn't mean that it's impossible to stand out amongst the pack. Ninja Kiwi, the creator the renowned Bloons Tower Defense series, seeks to innovate on the formula by introducing multiplayer tower defense in Bloons TD Battles.

The main innovation of Bloons TD Battles is that you can play against other players from all over the world. Once you've entered a battle, the screen will split in two with you controlling one of them. Now, you think you'd simply defend against the same waves until one of you fails, but it gets more complex than that to prevent both players from simply copying each other. You can also send balloons at your opponent yourself, which means you have to analyze their defenses and find a way to punch through with certain balloons.

Of course, there are multiple modes in this game. If you don't enjoy multitasking, you can simply challenge someone to a mirror match, with nobody sending any Bloons at each other. All in all, Bloons TD Battles is a great tower defense game and should be tried by every fan of the genre.
