Super Smash Brothers was a massive hit when the second entry, Melee, released back in 2001. It introduced a whole new genre of fighters. Instead of focusing on complex button inputs and reducing the opponent's health bar to 0, Smash Brothers introduced new concepts like off-stage interactions and focus on movement much more, as well as simply racking up damage until the opponent flies off-screen and dies. There have been many imitators over the years, but Brawlhalla is one of the more successful ones.
Do note that you need Steam in order to play Brawlhalla. Once you've installed Steam, go to this link to install it. This game can, by itself, give you many hours of entertainment, and many more if you actually take the time to learn it. However, just like Smash Brothers, it's perfectly fun for a newcomer. The core concept of this game is to knock the opponent out of the arena, much like Smash Brothers. As you attack your opponent, they get knocked back further and further until they can't come back anymore.
Every character has a unique ability and also have a few weapons, all with different movesets. These weapons will spawn around the arena as you fight, giving every player minor objectives to fight over. Hand to hand combat is rarely the most effective way to fight, after all.
All in all, Brawhalla is a perfectly fine game to play casually, but very rewarding if played seriously. If you're a fan of Smash Brothers, you should give this game a shot.
