Riders of Asgard is a very strange concept for a game, it’s a BMX riding game but set in a medieval world however once you get past the how’s and why’s of the fact it needed to be in a Viking village it’s actually an incredibly well crafted, great looking game with a couple of uplifting and epic music tracks to add to the atmosphere. At the moment the game is still in early development and there is only one BMX track available to play but it is a lot of fun although using a keyboard to control your BMX is quite difficult to get used to and I’ll admit I never managed to even clear the second set of jumps but I had a great time trying different tricks over the first ramp, after about fifteen minutes of working out how to actually get enough speed and air to jump high enough not to fall between the two ramps. Once you have got used to the controls which probably will take most people much less time, there is also a tutorial available which is quite helpful however it appears near the bottom of the title screen and is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.

Fans of extreme sports games will surely enjoy Riders of Asgard and perhaps the medieval setting will give it something of a crossover appeal to RPG gamers, although a game so well made probably doesn’t really need a gimmick such as being set in medieval times as this game would have been just as much fun in any setting but it really is a lot of fun and one of the best looking, most playable free games around at the moment.
