The Darkening Episode 2 1.0

DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything.  From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods and maps that can all do different things. Some have created series of maps that are so esteemed that they made sequels. One of those sequels is The Darkening Episode 2.

Installing The Darkening Episode 2 is simple. You need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the ZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.

The story is disconnected from the last episode. You are an intergalactic traveler that has run out of fuel for his or her spacecraft which crash-lands on one of the many hell holes of the galaxy. 

The disconnection from the first episode is even more noticeable when you start playing. The bricks and metal design from episode 1 has been changed to an incredibly futuristic techbase with slick and polished looks. The level design is also incredibly intricate. The layouts feature a lot of three-dimensional movement, and they're also much more well-lit which makes it much easier on the eyes with the new textures. It also steps away from the angular environments of the first episode as well.

All in all, The Darkening Episode 2 is a great follow up to the first episode both in terms of gameplay and setting. It's worth experiencing for sure.
