The House Review

It had been a while since a good horror game has been presented to us here at RockyBytes so to discover first person horror game The House there was a buzz of excitement, and watching the intro was a pleasant surprise, the graphics quality looked far better than you would expect from a free game and hopes were high for The House.

The first minute of the game setting up the story it had a good promise if the story line was a little obvious and contrived, as the actual game play starts it was strange to find the playable character was not mobile for the first couple of days in game however there were a couple of decent jump scares and on the third day it was good to find I could move my character.

Then finding a secret passageway I was curious to see what horrors might lie ahead, however whilst going down the secret passage which seemed to lead to a kind of sewer system however as my flashlight had already run out of battery by the time I entered the sewers an ever familiar thing happened which seems to happen in a lot of independent horror games, suddenly I was walking in endless darkness and not sure if I was walking in circles or not, it’s understandable the dark is scary however this became pretty frustrating and at least having the tunnels dimly lit would have made it easier to progress. However it's worth bearing in mind the developer is only 15 years old so it's a pretty good effort for someone so young.

The House has some nice jump scares but it’s not one of the best free horror games around however horror aficionados and jump scare fanatics will surely get a kick out of this.
