Void and Rainbow 1.0

DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything.  From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods and maps that can all do different things. Some of them push the limits of the engine to try some truly unique things. One of the many is Void and Rainbow.

Installing Void and Rainbow is simple. You need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the ZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.

There is no written story at all, which may be because the creator didn't want to try to explain the setting. The setting appears to be in outer space with a ton of stars and the Earth in the background visible to the naked eye. There is, however, a ton of magic in the setting, as there is a breathable atmosphere and magical paths leading between floating islands. The visual style revolves around juxtaposition, with color juxtaposed against muted, earthy textures.

The creator also includes a couple of tricks to weave everything into one cohesive experience, with silent teleports and reality-warping paths. But the gameplay is nothing too special.

All in all, however, Void and Rainbow is one of the most unique maps out there. You should definitely give it a shot if you're a big fan of unique looking maps and DOOM in general.
