Idle games have been rapidly rising in popularity in recent years. What started as a seeming joke or social experiment turned out to be incredibly addicting. Nowadays, there are a ton of different takes on the core idle games genre that all have their own identity. But what started it all? Well, we can point to at least one of them easily. Cookie Clicker.

To install Cookie Clicker, simply unzip the files wherever you want. Then, double click on the index file and it will launch in the browser of your choice.

This game is one of the most simple idle games out there, fitting how it is the game that really kickstarted all the craze in the first place. You simply buy buildings and upgrade them to increase the amount of cookies you create every second. If it sounds silly, well...it is.

What's interesting is how this game actually has a plot to it...sort of. The news banner will track your cookie making process until eventually, you've taken over the universe with cupcakes. It also tells you what's happening from your actions, so you get to see just how much of a problem opening dimensional portals to mine cookies can bring. 

There is also an upgrade that completely change the tone of the game to eldritch horror, which comes with a warning so you don't get too creeped out. Outside of that, there are also some fun easter eggs to keep you going.
