Facebook Pro Review

Have you ever gone to the Facebook website on your computer and thought to yourself, "Man, I wish there was an application that would just open to this site every time I clicked on it." Neither have I, but apparently one developer thinks that there is enough demand in the world for an application that does just that. No, I'm not talking about a Windows 8 app for Facebook that is customized and optimized for the touch screen features of Windows 8. I'm talking about a plain old application that is literally a web browser that, upon its initialization, opens a window for the Facebook desktop website. Nothing more nothing less. And calls itself Facebook Pro.

Frankly there isn't anything "pro" about Facebook Pro application. For several reasons besides the obvious, this is a really bad program. It has only two functions, open a window to the Facebook desktop site, and give you more ads that you already get from visiting the site. There is actually a link labled "Xtra" that opens a page of ads. I'm not even kidding right now. It's terrible.

Aside of the basic criticism regarding the app's functionality and intent, there are some major concerns regarding it's security. The fact of the matter is that there is no real way for a user to see whether or not they are surfing the web with a secured browser. There's no support for add-ons -user's cannot incorporate their current internet security methods with the browser or download new ones to install. The browser isn't being checked for spyware, malware, phishing attacks or anything. It's very dangerous when you think about it.

If I were you, I'd pass on this application, unless you have a real need for it. You can just as easily do this same thing essentially with Google Chrome. It's called a shortcut.
