Low-budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to dazzle the audience with beautiful graphics, they instead need to focus on something else to stand out. These restrictions can lead to some very creative premises. Let's look at VERWANDLUNG.

To install VERWANDLUNG, simply unzip the files inside the archive into any folder you want.

The premise is where the Kafka inspiration really shines through. You play as a young woman who goes to check on her brother, who you haven't heard from ever since he moved to the city. When you arrive at his house, you quickly find a swarm of spiders in the shape of a human being. If you've read Kafka's Metamorphosis story, you can probably see what's happened.

This game was created in a game jam, which explains the incredibly short length of 10 minutes. Despite that, there's a rather impressively modeled city that you don't spend much time in at the beginning of the game. The look of the main antagonist monster is also very impressive. It's a giant swarm of spiders, so despite being in a human shape, it doesn't walk. To move, it first turns back into a swarm of spiders and crawls across the ground before reforming into a human shape. It means that as far as horror monsters go, it's much harder to keep track of, and therefore much creepier.

All in all, VERWANDLUNG is an incredibly unique game that everybody should check out.
