00_E2M8 1.0

Metabolist the creator has made a ton of different maps, but he has discontinued many of them. However, he has seen fit to release one level back in mid 2001 - 00_E2M8. He says that it is one of his first original map, and unfortunately, it definitely looks like the sort of level someone might make as an initial, awkward attempt at creating a map.

To install 00_E2M8, you need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the GZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.

This map offers almost nothing to the concept of a massive cyberdemon boss fight. The leadup to the boss fight has a handful of monsters with environmental hazards, and a few spectres right after you grab a BFG and a ton of ammo. 

The final fight is against a variable number of Cyberdemons, with a maximum of three at once on ultra violence. The playing area is a little cramped considering the three superdemon and there are torches that block your path placed akwardly.

The worst part about this map is how unimaginative and unpleasant each area looks like, and how you can't progress without making a blind leap of faith. There were also computer panels and a mysterious hole in the ceiling that doesn't do anything, which gives it the feeling of being unfinished.

Unless you have a community fetish or just want to see an example of an early, crude level, then you can give 00_E2M8 a try. Otherwise, steer clear.
