Visual novels are one of the most popular genres for indie developers to make games for, due to there being a fantastic free engine out there that helps people easily make visual novels, as well as the low amount of resources required relative to other genres. As a result, indie developers need to do something unique in this genre to stand out. A Midsummer's Day Resonance tackles this with a unique premise.

The main premise involves a girl who, after an accident breaks her phone, finds that she can communicate with two other girls via the broken phone. The story then follows their developing friendship as her phone keeps zapping back to life at times to let her communicate with these girls. The premise of the story is simple enough, yet has enough mystery to hold your interest. There is also a twist down the line.

Do note, however, that this game is quite short, taking just 1-2 hours to complete depending on how quickly you read. The graphics are simple and do their work, and helps visualize parts of the game. However, there aren't any special CGs outside of backgrounds and the hologram portraits. What's there, however, is extremely well done.

Another thing to note is the fantastic localization work, and the translator manages to keep an actively feminine voice, something that's a lot harder to do when you have to worry about keeping the original message alive.
