Point and click games used to be all the craze until around the 2010s. Now, they're usually relegated to mid-size productions or simple indie titles. The genre also proved incredibly popular among flash game creators, due to the relatively simple planning and programming that goes into such a game. Japanese developers, in particular, took to it in droves. One of them is the developer Funkyland. Let's look at one of their games in a series, Alice House: No. 2 The Pool of Tears.
To play Alice House: No. 2 The Pool of Tears, unzip all the files in the same area and run the main SWF with whatever player you have.
There's practically no written story - this series is heavy on environmental storytelling and won't hold your hand in terms of actually giving you a narrative.
The gameplay is fantastic. You need to find five dodoes that are hidden around the area so you can leave and they can be anything from pictures to structures. To do this, you need to click around, explore and interact. The only downside is your cursor doesn't change on interactable objects, which makes things tedious but forces you to pay attention to the environment as well.
The art is beautiful and there's very little to criticize about it. It's clear where to go and every area has a landmark to help orient you.
All in all, if you're a fan of point-and-click games, then Alice House: No. 2 The Pool of Tears is very worthy of your time. You won't regret your choice if you give this game a shot.
