Point and click games used to be all the craze until around the 2010s. Now, they're usually relegated to mid-size productions or simple indie titles. The genre also proved incredibly popular among flash game creators, due to the relatively simple planning and programming that goes into such a game. Japanese developers, in particular, took to it in droves. One of them is the developer Funkyland. Let's look at one of their games in a series, Alice House: No 5. House of the Duchess.
To play Alice House: No 5. House of the Duchess, unzip all the files in the same area and run the main SWF with whatever player you have.
There's practically no written story - this series is heavy on environmental storytelling and won't hold your hand in terms of actually giving you a narrative.
The gameplay is fantastic. You need to find six caterpillars that are hidden around the area so you can leave and they can be anything from pictures to structures. To do this, you need to click around, explore and interact. The only downside is your cursor doesn't change on interactable objects, which makes things tedious but forces you to pay attention to the environment as well.
The art is beautiful and there's very little to criticize about it. This entry is still constrained, but the puzzles themselves are very complex.
All in all, if you're a fan of point-and-click games, then Alice House: No 5. House of the Duchess is very worthy of your time. You won't regret your choice if you give this game a shot.
