Windows Search is frustratingly slow. Anybody who's used it can attest. For some reason, it takes Microsoft's built-in utility at least half a minute to search a drive for a specific phrase or letters. This is especially egregious when you know the file you want is in the folder somewhere, but the default explorer insists on searching every subfolder. Well, there's an easy fix for something like that. Introducing Listary, a tool that doesn't even have its own window.

Listary is very easy to use. In fact, it's just so easy to use that I don't doubt that a total novice can walk up and learn how to use it within the minute. There's almost nothing to specify in the installation phase - there aren't even that many options to select from. All you need to do is select a directory. On the first bootup, it shows a tutorial and teaches you everything you need to know about the program, including all the various hotkeys. Should you want to review this, you can always find it in the system tray and right-click. From that point onwards, the window disappears and you're left with an empty screen.

To use it, all you need to do is go to Windows Explorer and start typing the name of the file you want to locate. You don't even need to click anywhere - just make sure Windows Explorer is selected. It will automatically bring up a search bar that filters out any files that don't fit the name of the file you're looking for. Once you've found what you're looking for, just click it and you'll be brought there. Such ease of use makes Listary an easy recommend.
