There isn't much you can do to customize the Windows 10 taskbar. That simple face hasn't changed since its first iteration, despite it being a key feature of the operating system and there being many user requests for improvement. The longer that went on for, the less patient the users got. There have been a ton of similar toolbars that aim to fix the shortcomings of the taskbar, and one of them is
Unlike other taskbar programs, MetroSidebar isn't aiming to completely replace the default toolbar and instead aims to supplement it. This program puts itself at the side of your screen, letting you set up shortcuts to whatever files or programs you want for easy access. Whenever you scroll over to the bottom right corner of your desktop - or press ctrl+shift+m - it will pop up for easy access. The way this toolbar is designed is to always stay on top of your windows when you scroll over it - however, it won't do so while you're playing games so as to not obscure your gameplay. This program also supports OSes back to vista and supports multiple monitors.
However, not everything is great with this program. There are a few downsides. The search bar is locked to Bing, and it doesn't have a shortcut for exploring the internet otherwise. You can't add folders - only files to it. And while it looks attractive, there honestly isn't too much substance. To access your different shortcuts, you have to click on a tiny little circle near the bottom of the screen, most likely interrupting the flow of your work. Overall, MetroSidebar is a solid program, but with noticeable flaws.
