Fallout is a franchise that's existed for years now and rose to the game through Fallout 3. Now, years later, Bethesda has released a mobile game that encompasses the most regular element in all those games - the Vaults. The vaults were created to preserve humanity, which was such an intriguing idea that they decided to make a full game around it. The result is Fallout Shelter.

The game is a casual management game that's a lot less demanding and a lot more simple than traditional simulation games. In fact, coming from its mobile roots, the gameplay flow involves building a ton of things to deal with various resource shortages and then a ton of waiting. However, there is a good bit of depth regardless. For instance, there is breeding, letting you play digital eugenics to create the perfect vault citizen. There's also a big exploration minigame, where you have to decide if it's worth sending one of your best workers out into the wilderness to scavenge useful gear.

As it comes from mobile, however, there are a ton of "shortcuts" and "powerups" that you can buy with real money. These are purely optional, as it does nothing but let you wait less and play more. If you can look past that, then Fallout Shelter is a fine entry into the Fallout universe if you know what you're looking for.
