Trelby is a free open source program for screen and play writers, it gives you the layout and page settings off a script and makes it very easy to format your script in a professional style.
There are also shortcut keys to change the style of the writing so once you have learnt the commands you can you can quickly change the style of writing to fit what is happening in the scene at the current for example Alt+D will change you in to a dialogue style and start the cursor from a little further across the page making it look more professional. Trelby is a really great tool if you are a budding screen writer and unlike many other similar programs it is totally free.
It has a lot of great features to draw up scripts and final drafts of scripts from things as necessary as a spell checker to other tools that will help your final drafts look much more professional such as the previously mentioned command shortcuts.
As far as software for writing screen plays go it is a niche piece of software but most budding screen writers are on a very tight budget and programs such as these can burn a huge hole in your pocket making Trelby a wonderful alternative option. Due to it being open source there are a few flaws with it but for the price (free) it is a fantastic and useful piece of software and should be used by any budding screen play or play writers out there who do not have the budget for a more complete screen writing program.
