Open Source Software
Open Source Software (OSS) is available for everyone and for any purpose, and that is indeed very much appreciated. Open Source Software is a perfect example of collaborative manners in the software world, which might have a huge and growing importance in the years to come. Sharing content allowing everyone to participate from what you created and letting them modify it (and make potential improvements) is a great initiative that is sure getting more and more recognition over the years.
There is an element of transparency in Open Source Software, of not being afraid to show its frame work. In this Open Source Software awards category we have such as LibreOffice and Notepad++, two classic of the text processors. Some other nominees are image related, it would be the case of Blender, Gimp and DigiKam. Another very interesting initiative is Chamilo, an alternative free teaching platform.
